ECM Iowa and MomsRising Urge 2016 Candidates to Focus on Policies that Boost Families, Kids, and our Economy

Yesterday, Iowa moms and children’s advocates from Every Child Matters in Iowa and MomsRising paid visits to the campaign offices of Dr. Ben Carson, Donald Trump, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Sec. Hillary Clinton, to urge them to address issues of family economic security and childhood development.

Earlier this week, Every Child Matters and MomsRising released a letter calling on each of the 2016 candidates to participate in individual forums on child and family issues, which will take place at the University of New Hampshire. Following the letter’s release, thousands of children and family advocates have tweeted at the candidates, urging them to attend the forums and speak about their plans to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, and well educated, and their policies to support a family-friendly workplace and economy.

Every Child Matters Iowa Director Kelli Soyer was joined yesterday by MomsRising Executive Director Kirstin Rowe-Finkbeiner and members of both organizations in meetings with campaign staffers. They delivered Iowa-grown popcorn to the campaigns and urged them to attend the New Hampshire forums on child and family policies that boost businesses and the economy. The advocates from Every Child Matters and MomsRising reminded the candidates that voters care deeply about policies that affect children and working families. According to a poll sponsored by Every Child Matters, 77 percent of Iowa voters believe children’s issues should be a high priority for the next president.

Let’s make sure the candidates understand that issues facing kids and working families are of great importance to all Americans. Join us by signing onto the letter and tweeting at the candidates, asking them to participate in the ECMNH/MomsRising Candidate Forum.
