Getting New York’s Kids Ready for Kindergarten and College
Our kids’ don’t start learning in kindergarten. In fact, 75% of brain growth and 85% of intellect, personality and social skills develop before age five.
New York’s children deserve quality early care and learning programs to ensure they have opportunities for success, in kindergarten, in college, and when they enter the workforce.
And all New Yorkers deserve a smart investment in early care and learning programs. Every dollar invested in these programs results in id=”mce_marker”.86 in additional local spending, and quality programs save costs for remedial and special education in our public schools.
We can’t leave early childhood education programs on their own as they take on the critically important task of getting the youngest New Yorker’s ready for success. These programs need a uniform set of standards and a system for improvement, so all our kids get the quality early education they need.
That’s why we’re fighting for an additional investment of $3 million this year toward the QUALITYstarsNY system – New York’s quality rating and improvement system for early childhood programs.
QUALITYstarsNY is a rating system that will give parents information about the programs available for their children, and also help those programs improve their services.
